ACTUARIAL
VALUATIONS AND CONSULTING:
An Example of the Rael & Letson Approach |
| |
|
Issue:
The actuarial valuation showed that due to a significant drop in asset value
the projected funding level has dropped below minimum required standards.
|
| |
|
Process:
Rael & Letson prepared alternative solutions to the funding problem which
included additional contributions, lower benefit levels, and a combination
of the two. Rael & Letson also explored possible methods and assumption
changes that could solve the funding problem. |
| |
|
Outcome:
The Board of Trustees was given an array of choices that Rael & Letson discussed
in depth. The consulting actuary presented this information in such a manner
that the Board could make an informed decision. The changes adopted by the
Board resulted in an improved funding position. |
